Start over on Bloomfield Road
(Letter to the Editor ~ 12/01/09)
We live on Bloomfield Road and agree with many of our neighbors that we should not disturb the beauty of this county road. The road is hazardous because people drive excessive speeds knowing they have little chance of a speeding ticket. Rather than spending hundreds of thousands of dollars to rebuild this road, why can't we install stop signs and even speed cameras to control traffic flow? I realize this solution is not as glamorous as some want, but it accomplishes the same thing for much less money. ...

GOP has good chance in 2010

I don't have a story about where I was or what I was doing on Dec. 7, 1941, but I remember Pearl Harbor even though I wasn't born yet. I heard the stories growing up. My dad remembered. He was in a bowling alley in Forest Hills, N.Y., when a buddy ran in and yelled, "Johnnie, get your gun. The Japs just invaded Pearl Harbor." "Japs" was an acceptable word back then, even if no one knew where Pearl Harbor was. But from that day forward, no one would ever forget...

News for the simple-minded

It's difficult to discuss the Tiger Woods situation because the landscape seems to change by the hour. And, to be real honest, I am ashamed that I would even address the topic because -- quite simply -- it's none of my business. We have this morbid fascination with fallen celebrities in this country. ALBANY, N.Y. -- When Jory Langner finds time for a field trip during an upcoming visit to Washington, he won't have to ask local birders where to find candidates to add to his life list of birds sighted.
