Scott wins gold medal in world-record time at swimming meet in Rio

Thursday, December 3, 2009
Cape Girardeau's Susan Beth Scott set a world record to win the gold medal in the 400-meter freestyle Wednesday at the IPC Short Course World Championships in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Scott, 17, covered the course in 4 minutes, 38.10 seconds. It was the first major international gold medal of her career.

She earned a bronze medal in the event at the Paralympics in Beijing last year.

Scott won the bronze in the 200 individual medley and 400 freestyle relay at the meet in Rio earlier this week.
