For $6 million, Southeast Missouri State University will name its new River Campus visual and performing arts school after you.
For those whose pockets aren't that deep, other naming options range from $3 million for the performance hall to $10,000 for a dance dressing room/shower.
It's all part of the university's efforts to raise money to construct the River Campus and fund scholarships and other programs for the arts school.
The naming opportunities are spelled out in a 15-page booklet that explains the project to potential donors.
Nothing has been overlooked. For $50,000, even a faculty lounge could sport a name on a plaque.
Wayne Davenport, vice president of university advancement, heads up fund-raising efforts at the university and helped develop the gift-giving list for the River Campus, which totals more than $26 million.
Davenport said he doesn't expect there will be donors for every naming opportunity. But the list offers potential donors a range of giving possibilities.
Chancellor Dale Nitzschke, who is spearheading major gift-giving efforts for the River Campus development, said the goal is to appeal to a variety of potential donors.
"You want as many people as possible to feel like this is their project and it is worth their investment of their resources," he said. The range in what can be named reflects that potential donors have varied interests, he said.
Typically, the donor's contribution would be recognized on a plaque in the vicinity of the space in the building that bears his or her name.
Those who donate hefty sums can expect to see their names on the outside of buildings.
The dollar figures for naming opportunities are based on the collective judgment of supporters such as members of the Southeast Missouri University Foundation and the Board of Regents, Nitzschke said.
"It's obviously not very scientific," he said.
The dollar figures don't reflect the total cost of developing the arts school. Southeast expects to spend $36 million to turn a former Catholic seminary into the visual and performing arts school.
The city and university are expected to contribute just over $19 million to the project, including $10.15 million in private gifts to the foundation. The state is being asked to kick in $16.5 million.
Many of the big-ticket donations and naming opportunities are expected to be included in the $10.15 million the university is seeking in private gifts to help fund construction of the school.
But Nitzschke said most of the naming opportunities are designed to raise money for scholarships and programs at the new arts school.
Davenport said the naming opportunities could extend for a decade or more.
Nitzschke said large monetary donations are generally given over a period of five years.
Fund-raising efforts for the River Campus are expected to break new ground when it comes to private gifts, Nitzschke said. "It does raise the bar," he said.
Southeast's fund-raising foundation has only been around for 17 years. "We have to grow the culture," Nitzschke said of encouraging financial donations to the school.
Southeast isn't seeking private donations just for the River Campus.
The university currently is in the "quiet phase" of a capital fund drive that hopes to raise some $25 million for various projects and programs.
Davenport said the university is scheduled to launch the public phase of the campaign in December. The financial goal could be adjusted upwards, depending on how well the university does with its quiet phase.
As part of the campaign, Southeast is seeking another $2 million for program endowments for the arts school in addition to the $10.15 million for the River Campus construction.
Other items on the fund-raising list include $3 million to help fund construction of the Seabaugh Polytechnic Building and scholarships for that school, $2.8 million for other student scholarships, $1.5 million for Houck Stadium renovations and $1.5 million for regional service programs and improvements for the school's area higher education centers, the Regional Public Service Institute and Southeast Public Radio.
