The Southeast Missouri State University Board of Regents Tuesday will consider hiring a private cleaning service to manage the institution's custodial operations.
The regents will meet at 10:30 a.m. in the University Center Ballroom.
Ken Dobbins, vice president for finance and administration, said in June that university officials were considering such a move in an effort to increase efficiency and save money.
Art Wallhausen, assistant to the president at Southeast, said the custodial workers would remain employees of the university.
The regents may also go into closed session to consider approving a new contract with Southeast President Kala Stroup.
In other action, the regents will consider revising two policies one on employee travel and the other dealing with use of copyrighted material.
Wallhausen said both of the policy revisions are simple statements that the university will comply with appropriate state or federal laws and regulations.
"What we are moving toward is a basic statement of policy," he said. "The board sets policy and then internally we develop the procedures to implement the policies."
Wallhausen said the copyright policy will deal with faculty and staff copying articles and chapters of textbooks. Basically, he said, the policy requires university employees to comply with federal copyright law.
Wallhausen said the policy revisions are not expected to result in any significant changes in current practices at Southeast.
In other business, the regents will consider making an appointment to the Show Me Center Board of Managers to fill a position now held by Robert W. Foster, executive director of the Southeast Missouri University Foundation. Foster's term on the board of managers expires Dec. 1.
The regents will hear reports on fall enrollment, the status of capital improvement projects, and administrative unit goals and objectives for the current academic year.
A discussion is also scheduled on a recent hearing held by the Coordinating Board for Higher Education on the report of the CBHE Task Force on Critical Choices for Higher Education.
