The economic development office at Southeast Missouri State University is sponsoring real estate appraisal courses designed to meet state certification requirements.

A course called "Standards of Professional Practice" will be held Thursday and Friday at the University Center. The 15-hour course focuses on the requirements for ethical behavior and competent performance by appraisers. The cost of the course is $235, which includes all course materials and refreshments.

Two additional real estate appraisal courses will be offered in September and October to assist appraisers in completing state education requirements.

"Foundations of Real Estate Appraisal" will be offered at the University Center on Sept. 21, 22, 28 and 29 from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The 30-hour course will provide an overview of the appraisal process, covering the principles of market analysis and the valuation methods needed to appraise real property. The cost for this course is $385.

In October, "Appraising the Single Family Residence" will provide participants with a working knowledge to estimate the market value of single family residences. Three approaches to valuation will be presented: sales comparison, cost and income capitalization. Meeting dates for this 30-hour course are Oct. 15, 16, 22 and 23 at the Bootheel Educational Center in Malden. Cost for this course is $385.

Linda Blake, president of Real Estate Appraisal Service, will serve as instructor.
