CAPE GIRARDEAU -- A banquet to benefit a proposed veterinary diagnostic laboratory in the area will be held Feb. 28 in the University Center Ballroom at Southeast Missouri State University.

The banquet will be held at 6:30 p.m. Derry Brownfield of the Brownfield network is scheduled to attend.

Area beef producers, in conjunction with an agriculture committee of the Cape Girardeau Chamber of Commerce and Southeast Missouri State University, began a fund drive in 1987 in order to establish a state-supported regional vet-diagnostic laboratory.

Within six months, area producers raised over $62,000.

The operation of this medical facility, possibly to be located on the university campus, would be largely subsidized by fees charged to the local producers. The remaining funding would come from the Missouri Agriculture Department.

Persons interested in attending the banquet should make reservations with the Cape Girardeau Chamber of Commerce by Thursday. The chamber can be reached by calling (314) 335-3312.
