A Southeast Missouri State University sponsored community group recently returned from a study tour of England and Wales.
The group, accompanied by history professor Martin Needels and International Programs Coordinator Margaret Popham, visited London, Lincoln, Coventry and Swansea, Wales.
The group met several times with Needels and Popham before departure to better understand the history and significance of what they would visit.
In addition, Needels offered commentary during the trip. One of the highlights of the trip was a visit with the Swansea mayor, and later a visit with the president of West Glamorgen Institute of Higher Education in Swansea. Southeast has an exchange program with West Glamorgen.
Community Study Tours are offered through the Center for International Studies at Southeast. Trips are scheduled annually and include places where Southeast has exchange programs. The purpose of the tours is to combine a visit with an educational experience and promote greater international awareness, Popham said.
In the past, such tours have involved visits to Japan, Malaysia and Singapore. Another study group tour is being planned for the spring.
Interested persons are invited to participate, although space is limited. For further information, contact Popham at 651-2557.
