CAPE GIRARDEAU -- The computer science department at Southeast Missouri State University will offer four short-term courses, beginning in March.
"Introduction to Word Perfect" will meet on Saturday. Participants in the workshop will learn to create, save and print documents using Word Perfect's text entry and editing features.
"Intermediate Word Perfect" will be held on Saturday, March 23. Workshop participants will learn how to create form letters with "mail merge" so that personalized letters can be generated from an address file. The workshop will also deal with Word Perfect graphics.
Both workshops will be taught by Jeanne Livers, scientific programmer/analyst in the university's Computer Center. The classes will be held in Room 112 at Johnson Hall, from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The fee for each workshop is $60.
"Tips and Techniques for Lotus 1-2-3" is an intermediate-level follow-up to the introductory course on the Lotus software program. The course, to be led by Anthony Duben, an associate professor of commuter science, will be held March 19 and 26, and April 2 and 9, from 6 to 9 p.m. The course will include a review of the Lotus basics and an introduction to more complex uses of the program.
"Introduction to the Microcomputer" is a beginning microcomputer course that uses IBM personal computers and is designed for those with no computer experience.
Participants will receive hands-on experience in computer operations, terminology, disks and software. The course, to be taught by Dr. Wayne Summers, an associate professor of computer science, will be held March 21 and 28, and April 4 and 11, from 6 to 9 p.m.
The courses will be held in Room 112 of Johnson Hall. The fee for each four-week course is $100.
