The Board of Regents at Southeast Missouri State University appears close to finalizing a new contract for the institution's president, Kala Stroup.
Stroup is in the last year of a three-year contract under which she receives a salary of $105,000 plus benefits.
The board's president, Carl Ben Bidewell of Poplar Bluff, said Tuesday that the regents are in "the fourth quarter" in terms of reaching agreement on a new contract.
"I think we are all in agreement," said Bidewell. But he said he didn't know when the board would actually approve a new contract.
Regent Lynn Dempster of Sikeston said she expected the regents to discuss a contract proposal during a telephone conference call scheduled for Sept. 23.
"It is a fair contract. It is fair to us; it is fair to her," said Dempster. Terms of the proposed contract have not been disclosed.
But Bidewell suggested the issue might not be brought up during the conference call. Instead, he said the issue would more likely be discussed at the regular meeting of the board in October.
While Stroup's salary has yet to be worked out, salaries for the university's other administrators for the 1992-93 fiscal year have been approved.
The salaries of 24 of the university's top officials were disclosed Tuesday. The list comprises those university officials whose salaries are more than $50,000.
They are Kenneth Dobbins, vice president of finance and administration, $88,110; SueAnn Strom, vice president of student affairs, $78,721; Sheila Caskey, interim provost, and dean of the School of Graduate Studies and Extended Learning, $74,832; Martin Jones, dean of the College of Liberal Arts, $68,704.
Jesse Snowden, dean of the College of Science and Technology, $67,650; Lenore Bierbaum, dean of the College of Education, $66,383; Don Ford, university development director, $66,270; Ron Shumate, basketball head coach, $65,721; Robert Boissoneau, dean of the College of Health and Human Services, $65,444.
John Hinni, dean of University Studies, $63,880; Richard McDuffie, director of intercollegiate athletics, $61,983; Fred Snider, assistant vice president and dean of enrollment development, $61,500; William Duffy, assistant vice president of financial affairs, $60,000; James Biundo, director of university relations, $57,329; Bill Moon, physical plant director, $56,950.
David Ross, Show Me Center director, $56,567; James Zink, director of Kent Library, $53,369; Pauline Fox, academic associate and director of academic assessment, $52,563; Don Krueger, director of the computer center, $51,625; Michael Dougherty, personnel services director, $51,376.
Patricia Volp, assistant vice president of student development, $51,000; Leonard Clark, assistant to the president for diversity issues, $50,221; and Art Wallhausen, assistant to the president, $50,221.
Wallhausen said the position of dean of the College of Business Administration is currently vacant. Richard Schmidt resigned as dean effective Aug. 31. Schmidt' salary was to have been $73,084 for the 1992-93 year.
As to Caskey's salary, Wallhausen said her regular salary is $66,432. The $74,832 salary includes added pay for serving as interim provost and assumes she will serve in that position for the full year, he explained.
Shumate is the only head coach on the list because he is the only one of Southeast's athletic coaches making a salary of more than $50,000, Wallhausen said.
All of the salaries include a $2,721 allowance for family medical benefit or cash at the employee's option.
