Does Southeast Missouri State University need more student housing? Should it revise its enrollment goal of 10,300 students?

Those are questions expected to come up at the university's Board of Regents retreat today and Saturday at the Lodge of the Four Seasons at Lake of the Ozarks.

The retreat is being held at the Lake of the Ozarks so board members can attend the Southeast Jazz Ensemble's performance at the Missouri Music Educators conference today at Tan-Tar-A.

Regents' president Don Dickerson said the retreat will give board members and university administrators a chance to review the school's building and academic needs, but no action will be taken.

Holding a retreat is new to the regents, although they have held study sessions in recent years.

Southeast President Dr. Ken Dobbins said the regents will look at a university committee's proposed revisions to the school's strategic plan. The regents also will look at enrollment plans.

Southeast had nearly 9,000 graduate and undergraduate students enrolled in classes fall semester, and school officials have predicted enrollment could reach 10,000 within the next few years.

In discussing the campus master plan, the regents also are expected to talk about a proposal to develop a technology park on the university farm, Dickerson said.

The regents also plan to evaluate their roles and the job done by the school's president and other top administrators.
