The director of the Missouri State High School Activities Association has asked his brother, Leopold school superintendent Derek Urhahn, to investigate an allegation that a female student athlete at the school lives outside the district and is ineligible to play sports.
The allegation was contained in an unsigned letter received by MSHSAA two weeks ago, said Kerwin Urhahn, who heads up the activities association based in Columbia, Mo.
Kerwin Urhahn said he officially asked his brother to investigate. But since it was an unsigned complaint, MSHSAA will take no further action, the association director said.
Derek Urhahn said school officials are investigating the unsigned complaint along with an anonymous complaint made to the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.
The latter complaint alleges that as many as 42 students -- nearly a fourth of the total student population in the rural, Bollinger County school district -- are enrolled illegally.
On another matter, Kerwin Urhahn said the activities association continues to investigate a complaint filed by the Naylor School District that alleges that several student athletes at Bell City High School don't reside in that school district and are participating in school sports in violation of MSHSAA rules and bylaws.
