The state treasurer's office has a new Web site devoted to helping Missourians recover abandoned money and other assets that belong to them.

At www.showmemoney.com, computer users can search a data base of more than 1.2 million names of owners of unclaimed assets being held by the state treasurer's office.

State Treasurer Nancy Farmer said her unclaimed property division currently holds more than $200 million in abandoned funds and other assets.

"Our old Internet address had a name only a bureaucrat could love," Farmer said. The new Web address is designed to be easier to remember and provides direct access to the unclaimed property search site.

People who find their names online can begin the claims process right on their computers, Farmer said.

Most unclaimed property consists of cash from abandoned or forgotten bank accounts and uncollected checks for refunds, utility deposits or even wages from past jobs, she said. The treasurer's office also receives a variety of items that were left in safe deposit boxes.
