Area youth will gather in Cape Girardeau today for the annual Team Spirit DWI Leadership Training Conference.
The kickoff will be at the Holiday Inn at 10 a.m.
Team Spirit is a leadership training program designed to empower high school-age youth to become active in preventing alcohol and other drug use, particularly as it relates to driving. This is accomplished by working with teams of 8 to 10 students and two advisers from nine high schools in Southeast Missouri.
The teams will write action plans for their schools.
Sponsors are the Cape Girardeau Safe Communities Program, the Cape Girardeau Police Department and the Missouri Division of Highway Safety.
Participating schools are: Seckman, Fox, Van Buren, Woodland, Greenville, Farmington, Advance, New Madrid and Caruthersville.
