HO, ROTHEMEYER RECEIVE MARGARET WOODS ALLEN PIANO SCHOLARSHIP

Southeast Missouri State University students Susan Ho and Christy Rothemeyer have received the Margaret Woods Allen Piano Scholarship.

They received the scholarships during a presentation Oct. 19 in the Brandt Hall of Music.

Ho of Kualelumpur, Malaysia, is pursuing a major in piano performance to complement the bachelor's degree in mass communications she holds from Southeast.

Ho was the winner of the Missouri Music Teachers Association competition and recently was one of five to receive the Governor's Award for student achievement and recognition.

She began piano lessons at age 8, took the music exam conducted by the Associated Board of the Royal London College of Music and earned a diploma in performing from Trinity College of London.

Rothemeyer, a beginning freshman at Southeast, plans to major in piano performance. She graduated from Jackson High School, where she received the recognition and service award from her high school band. Also during high school, she was president of the school's National Honor Society.

She teaches piano as part of the Southeast Music Academy and is active in the University Choir.

The Margaret Woods Allen Piano Scholarship was established in 1991 by Allen, a Sikeston resident and accomplished violinist.

The scholarship covers the cost of incidental fees, room and board, and private piano lessons.
