JACKSON, Mo. --n advisory committee to the newly created Cape Girardeau County Transit Authority could be named Monday.
The county commission discussed naming a 10-member advisory committee Thursday. The commission settled on 10 names, but said it wanted to first contact the potential members before publicly appointing them.
Presiding commissioner Gerald Jones said the commission should be ready to appoint the advisory group on Monday.
The commission also passed and signed a resolution Thursday that officially creates the transit authority. The commission appointed the five-member transit this week.
The authority will seek to better coordinate existing transportation services in the county. The five-member board could apply for state and federal funding, and contract for services with existing transportation services or operate its own transit system.
The advisory group is expected to include representatives of existing transportation services as well some former members of an ad hoc committee that earlier this year advised the commission to create a transit authority.
