Show Harry Truman. Cover up Rush Limbaugh.
That's the plan of Democrats involved in organizing Gov. Mel Carnahan's whistle-stop campaign visit to Cape Girardeau Saturday. Carnahan is running for U.S. Senate.
The campaign train, featuring Carnahan and other statewide Democratic candidates, is slated to stop in front of the Missouri Wall of Fame in downtown Cape Girardeau just before 1 p.m.
The Wall of Fame depicts a number of famous Missourians including President Truman and conservative radio talk-show host Rush Limbaugh, a native of Cape Girardeau.
Chris Edwards, secretary of the Cape Girardeau County Democratic Central Committee, said campaign organizers have indicated they want the Truman portrait to be visible from the back of the train platform where Carnahan and other Democratic candidates will speak.
Edwards said the train's locomotives hopefully will block the view of the Limbaugh portrait.
The campaign festivities in Cape Girardeau are slated to begin at 12:30 p.m. The campaign train is expected to arrive at 12:55 p.m. and remain in Cape Girardeau until 1:40 p.m.
"They tell me the train needs to be pretty well on time because there are some big freight trains behind them that they have to get off the tracks for," said Edwards.
Democratic supporters are expected to gather in the downtown parking lot. Those coming to the event will have to park along the downtown streets, she said.
Jerry Ford's Dixieland Band will perform during the festivities leading up to the arrival of the train. There will be refreshments at the rally.
Besides Carnahan, those scheduled to be on the train include gubernatorial candidate Bob Holden, lieutenant governor candidate Joe Maxwell, state treasurer candidates Nancy Farmer and Brian May, and secretary of state candidate Steve Gaw.
