~James Biundo, director of university relations at Southeast Missouri State University, was inducted as a charter member into The International Society of Poets during a ceremony Aug. 16 in Washington, D.C.
Biundo was nominated for the slot by Alisa Hoffman, senior editor of The National Library of Poetry.
In addition, Biundo's poem, "Intimated Immortality," won an International Pen Award and a cash prize at the symposium. The poem had received the Editor's Choice Award in 1990 from The National Library of Poetry and was included in the anthology "On ~the T~hreshold of a Dream."
Keynote speaker at the induction ceremony was Congressional Arts Caucus member and U.S. Rep. Kweisi Mfume.
As part of the symposium, poets read their poems in professional reading sessions and attended various seminars and workshops.
