Cannonball Run makes stop in Cape Girardeau

Today will be a busy day for many in the area. It's fair week, and Christian singer Jeremy Camp will perform at the Arena Park grandstand. The Crader Lecture also is on for this evening, and Baylor faculty member Dr. Thomas Kidd will deliver a speech on Patrick Henry at 7:30 p.m. in Rose Theatre.

There is another event on the schedule. The Motorcycle Cannonball Run, a group of 100 antique rally motorcycles, will arrive in Cape Girardeau late afternoon. The group is traveling from Daytona Beach, Florida, to Tacoma, Washington -- a 4,150-mile trip -- and making an overnight stop in Cape Girardeau.

The city has welcomed several traveling groups recently, and this one should also bring out a nice crowd.

The group will arrive about 4 p.m., and the motorcycles will be on display on Spanish Street between Themis and Merriwether streets. The motorcycles will form a parade at about 6:45 p.m. from North Spanish to Broadway to Kingshighway to William Street. Along with the vintage bikes, there will be other more recent motorcycles, exhibits, vendors and more for attendees to check out.

It's good to see so many good events taking place, and we thank everyone who has played a part in bringing them to the area.
