Thank you, Lynwood

If you haven't yet done so, we highly suggest you check out the photo gallery of the 30-foot-long banana split being served up to the Blanchard students last week. The photos, which can be found at semissourian.com, were quite a treat as the children indulged in something of a goodbye party to their temporary classrooms. Twenty-five volunteers from the church served up the ice cream treats.

It was yet another example of the joyous way in which the Cape Girardeau community gives of its time and resources.

Back on Dec. 6, a significant fire in the break room of the school forced teachers and educators to scramble for temporary accommodations. Up stepped Lynwood Baptist Church, whose members graciously opened the doors of the building, in very short order, to bring in the hundreds of youngsters so they could continue to go to school.

The situation could have been, well, bananas. But things seemed to run smoothly, thanks in large part to the dedicated teachers and educators who sprung into action, and to the people at Lynwood.

Tomorrow, the students return to Blanchard.

But today we lift up Lynwood, not just for welcoming the students and teachers, but for doing so with joy and gladness. Offering the space was a nice and generous gesture. The warm hospitality was the cherry on top.
