Central basketball ceremony

The Central High School boys basketball team's first season began in 1911-1912. Under coach R.L. Brown the Tigers won 10 games and had five losses. The 1953-1954 and 1979-1980 seasons for Central were some of the best ever for the school with wins in the state championship games. The coaches of these two prolific teams were Lou Muegge and Dan Milligan.

Overall in the history of the basketball program there have been 65 winning seasons out of 98. This past season the Tigers had much success when they won districts in their home gym. Our success has continued this year with first-place at the Potosi Invitational Tournament and a third-place finish in the Southeast Missourian Christmas Tournament.

On Saturday, the boys basketball team will host Dwight D. Eisenhower High School for its third home game of the year. The JV team's game begins at 4 p.m. with the varsity game following sometime around 5:30 p.m. As part of our centennial celebration we will be recognizing all past basketball players and coaches at half time of the varsity game. I look forward to seeing everyone at the game and seeing everyone enjoying the evening just as I have enjoyed my time with the basketball program.
