Chamber winners

Pete Poe is not someone who likes to talk about community service. He would rather do it. For his many years of working in so many capacities to benefit Cape Girardeau, Poe was honored with this year's Rush H. Limbaugh Award for service to the community. The award was presented as the Cape Girardeau Area Chamber of Commerce annual dinner.

Poe, a Cape Girardeau County native, has been involved with the SEMO District Fair for 27 years. The fair, the oldest in Missouri, is just one of Poe's many activities that promote tourism. He was the first chairman of the tourism group that predated the Cape Girardeau Convention and Visitors Bureau. He also serves as executive director of the Missouri Association of Fairs and Festivals. Poe also is active in many other community and church organizations -- all of this while managing Drury hotels.

The Limbaugh Award is the second major community award Poe has received in the past year. He was honored with the Spirit of America Award, given by the Southeast Missourian, at last year's Fourth of July festivities.

Also honored with chamber awards were small-business winners Skyview Animal Clinic and Northwestern Mutual Financial Network. Paula Myers of Alliance Bank received the Go Getter Award.
