Bonfire can be fun or offensive

To the editor:

Tony L. Smee defends his backyard bonfires as an exercise of tradition but gives no thought to the effects on neighbors. Perhaps those neighbors regard the drift of noxious smoke as offensive, even foul-smelling. Additionally, Mr. Smee threatens to move out to the county if his rights to have such backyard fires is prohibited. Perhaps he has presented the very solution his neighbors have sought.
