OLUNTEERS SPELL FAIR SUCCESS

Despite a heat wave and occasional showers, the SEMO District Fair posted another distinguished year.

Total attendance of 81,500 topped last year's mark.

Champion livestock and name entertainment draw the crowds. But the real secret to the fair's success is the hundreds of volunteers who give of their time each year. They oversee exhibits, admission, grandstand activities, livestock sales, grounds set-up and clean-up, information, parking, ribbons, plaques and awards.

In short, volunteers are at the heart of the fair operations.

The fair association itself is non-profit. Much of the proceeds are used to cover costs and with "profits" plowed back into Arena Park improvements. These dedicated fair association volunteers deserve our thanks. Their year-long planning has once again paid off in a successful district fair.
