Student's death a big blow to friends

To the editor:

I was a good friend of Jason Schafer, as was most of the Jackson High School population. He was a good kid and probably one of the most liked kids in the school. Monday was a devastating day for us as soon as his death was announced over the intercom. Nobody could believe it. We just had class with him three days ago. I just saw Jason that day before his open gym practice.

I've never lost anybody close to me until Monday. I now know what it feels like, and so does everybody else. Even today if you walk in the halls of Jackson High you can still see the hurt in everybody who knew him. You never really understand how much it hurts to lose someone until it happens. I hope this will teach people a few things in life. On behalf of the Jackson basketball team, "We miss you Jason."
