Dr. and Mrs. John Young of Cape Girardeau celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with a family dinner and reception Sept. 1, 2002, at First Baptist Church.
Hosts were their children and grandchildren.
Guests attended from Cape Girardeau, Jackson, Scott City, Ozark and Lawson, Mo.; Pocahontas and Rogers, Ark.; Waterloo, Ill.; Colorado Springs and Greeley, Colo.; Mesa and Peoria, Ariz.; Wichita, Kan.; Grapevine, Texas; Cincinnati, Ohio; and New York City, N.Y.
Young and Rachael Pennington were married Aug. 31, 1952, at First Baptist Church in Altamont, Kan., by the Rev. T.R. Layton.
The Youngs eight children and spouses are: Rebecca and Carl Atkins of Scott City, Lawrence and Debbie Young of Jackson, Eric and Nanci Young of Pocahontas, Ark., Melinda and Michael Mullins of Waterloo, Ill., Bryan and Amy Young of Cape Girardeau, Kirsten and Christopher Rasche of Rogers, Ark., Sarah Young of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Lucinda Young of Cape Girardeau.
The couple has 18 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Young was a teacher in the mathematics department at Southeast Missouri State University 30 years, retiring as professor in 1998.
