Mr. and Mrs. George Graham Suggs Jr. of Cape Girardeau celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary with a dinner Saturday at Dalhousie Golf Club, and a family cookout today.
George and the former Helen Virginia Kindall were married May 15, 1954, at the Church of the Nazarene in Canon City, Colorado, by the Rev. Kenneth Smith. Maid of honor was Irene Kindall, sister of the bride. Best man was Stewart Poet, cousin of the bride.
Virginia was a graduate of Ottawa University. She taught in public schools in Denver, Colorado, and later in Cape Girardeau Public Schools.
George, of Bladenboro, N.C., attended the University of Colorado in Boulder, and in 1964 received a Ph.D. in American history. He taught 31 years at Southeast Missouri State University.
The Suggs have lived in Cape Girardeau for 48 years.
They celebrated with their children, Owen (Lisa) Suggs of St. Louis, Suzanne (Allen) Mortimer of Chattanooga, Tennessee, Beth (Jerry) McKay of Olathe, Kansas, and Lorrie (Dean) Edwards of Cape Girardeau. Also with 10 of their 12 grandchildren, Will Suggs, George Suggs, Samuel Mortimer, Whitney Mortimer, Melissa Mortimer, Molly (Matt) Winkle, Patrick McKay, Carrie McKay, Tim Edwards, and Kate Edwards. Unable to attend were Anne Suggs and Graham McKay.
