Smiths mark 70th anniversary

Mr. and Mrs. John R. Smith of Jackson were surprised by family and friends Jan. 8, 2006, at Delmonico's, in honor of their 70th wedding anniversary.

The event was hosted by their sons and daughters-in-law, Mike and Martha Smith of Jackson and Tim and Sue Smith of Ellisville, Mo.

Guests attended from Cape Girardeau, Jackson, Oak Ridge, Perryville, St. Louis; Brentwood; Evansville, Ill.; and Richland, Mich.

The Smiths were married Jan. 4, 1936, at Grace United Methodist Church parsonage by the Rev. Heckman. Their attendants were the bride's uncle, Leo Cavaner, and wife, Jane, of Cape Girardeau.
