Mr. and Mrs. Norbert R. Schlegel of Cape Girardeau celebrated their 50th anniversary last year with their family by attending Trinity Lutheran Church and having dinner at Great Wall. Mr. and Mrs. Norbert R. Schlegel of Cape Girardeau celebrated their 50th anniversary last year with their family by attending Trinity Lutheran Church and having dinner at Great Wall.

Schlegel and Viola M. Exler were married June 24, 1951, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Egypt Mills, Mo., by the Rev. Arno C. Meyer. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. George Schlegel. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Benjamin Exler.

Their attendants were Emil and Juanita Exler, brother and sister-in-law of Mrs. Schlegel; Cecelia Borchelt and William Schlegel, cousins of the couple.

Schlegel had worked at International Shoe Co. and was a transport driver for Wide's Oil Co. and Huckstep Oil Co. Mrs. Schlegel had worked at International Shoe, Rigdon Laundry, and at Southeast Missouri Hospital from 1973 until retiring in 1995. She now volunteers at the hospital.

The Schlegels children and spouses are Karen and Gary Garner of Cape Girardeau and Darrel and Joy Schlegel of Egypt Mills. They have four grandchildren, James Park of Jackson, Mo., Benjamin Schlegel and Emily Schlegel of Cape Girardeau, and Cassandra Schlegel of Egypt Mills.

A daughter, Sharon Park, died in 1998.
