John J. Keusenkothen, president of Saint Francis Medical Center since 1976, announces he will retire from his position, effective Sept. 30; he has agreed to continue in a consulting capacity following his retirement to help ensure a smooth transition for his successor, who hasn't been named.

1966

Educational milestones are reached by 580 students, who receive State College or University of Missouri degrees in commencement exercise in the evening at Houck Stadium; commencement speaker is Dr. Bower Aly, chairman of the Department of Speech at the University of Hawaii and a 1925 graduate of State College.

Plaza Car Wash has acquired the business formerly known as Al's Tire Co., which had been located on South Main Street, and has moved it to the car wash location on William Street; the business will be devoted to tire recapping; the business is being managed by V.E. and E.E. Rhodes, who also operate the car wash.

Albert J. Chandler, a government engineer, arrives here to prepare topographical maps of the site in Courthouse Park where the new federal government building will be constructed; he expects his task will probably require more than a week to complete.

Randall Britton, for the past three years office manager for the Southeast Missouri Area Council of Boy Scouts here, plans to go to Jefferson Barracks Saturday for formal enlistment in the Army Air Corps; Britton graduated last weeK, from the Teachers College.

1916

The Senior Ladies of Trinity Lutheran Church here celebrate the 50th anniversary of the founding of their society at the church in the afternoon; the pastor, the Rev. A. Wilder, preaches a sermon during the program, and a reception follows, hosted by the Junior Ladies' Society.

The annual May procession is held in the afternoon at St. Vincent's Catholic Church, with 109 children and their parents taking part in the service; the young girls form their lines at St. Vincent's Academy and march to the church, where they are joined by the boy pupils of the parochial school and march in procession into the church.
