The new building at 26 N. Main St. in Cape Girardeau to house the OSCO Drug Co. store is nearing completion; its opening is tentatively set for around the middle of June; the retail floor space will cover 8,500 square feet, and an equal amount is provided on the basement level for warehousing.

The moving of some Cape Girardeau city offices into the newly acquired public works building on North Fountain Street is expected to begin this afternoon and continue tomorrow; the first to be moved will be the city and county health offices; also to have offices in the former Rueseler motor agency building are members of the inspection staff, the city engineering staff and the Public Works Department.

Justice moves swiftly for two men, arrested two days ago on charges of forgery, who are sentenced in Circuit Court, hours after they tried to escape from constable Robert Reed while being transported to the Jackson jail; one man draws a six-year prison term, while the other, his nephew, is given a four-year term from Judge J.C. McDowell; both pleaded guilty.

C.C. Mackey of Cape Girardeau is moving his sawmill from Old Appleton to the farm of Mrs. J.T. McDonald, near U.S. 61 north of the city; he expects to have the plant in operation, sawing staves, before the end of the week; he employs about 10 men.

1916

Mrs. J.H. Himmelberger and Judge B.F. Davis agreed at a mass meeting last night at the courthouse to give $500 to a fund with which a lot is to be bought for a site for a public library; more than $2,000 was raised by subscription; it is hoped to secure a site for the building and then obtain sufficient funds from the Carnegie library commission with which to build the library.

Contractor Herman Loeffel starts paving the two blocks on Water Street, where the wood block paving was torn up by the flood two months ago; the street's concrete foundation is in good condition, and all Loeffel has to do is to put on a thick coating of concrete to surface the street.
