Two Missouri representatives whose districts contain most of the land that would be flooded by a recreational lake in Cape Girardeau and Bollinger counties plan to offer amendments to a Senate-passed bill; Rep. David Schwab, R-Jackson, and Rep. Frank Ellis, D-Sedgewickville, will offer amendments to alleviate some concerns expressed by landowners and others who live where the lake would be built.

Although an airport parking fee was shot down by the Cape Girardeau City Council last week, Airport Advisory Board members still favor implementation of the fee; the board would like to institute a monthly tie-down fee of $20 to owners who park their planes on the city ramp.

The Rev. Jerry D. Ehrlich is installed as assistant pastor of Trinity Lutheran Church in a special evening service; after the installation, the Ladies' Aid of the church holds a reception for him in Trinity School auditorium.

ORAN, Mo. -- The Rev. Aloysius J. Poepsel, 71, pastor of Guardian Angels Catholic Church here, dies at a Cape Girardeau hospital; Poepsel was ordained in 1925, and he first served as assistant pastor of St. Theresa's Catholic Church in St. Louis; after pastorates in Chamois, Missouri, and Illmo, he was assigned to the Oran parish in 1949.

1940

Winter makes a comeback in Cape Girardeau, as a heavy snowstorm begins almost at the same time Girardeans are heading off to work; by noon an inch of snow is on the ground; it is the first snow of any consequence since Feb. 19, when rain and snowfall amounted to 1.85 inches.

The Haywood-Wakefield Co. of Gardner, Massachusetts, has been given a contract to furnish 1,204 new seats for the State Teachers College auditorium; they will replace seats that have been in use more than 30 years and will cost about $5,800.

1915

The Rev. C. Allen Burrus of Marquand, Missouri, preaches twice at the Christian Church and pleases the large audiences with his forceful and well-thought-out offerings; in the morning the service is for the Christian congregation especially, while in the evening the Centenary Methodist congregation attends as well.

A masked ball was given at Anderson Hall last night and was a great success, nearly 300 being present; prizes for costumes went to Ethel Nichol, Amy Yarberry, Rurie Hagan and Young Meystedt.
