The Cape Girardeau City Council grants Municipal Judge Edward Calvin an unpaid leave of absence to allow him to run for associate circuit judge in the November general election.

1965

A St. Louis firm of architects and engineers, Marcel Boulicault, Inc., has been retained by the government to design Cape Girardeau's new federal building; the estimated cost of the structure is $1,300,000; it will be built on the site now occupied by the post office-federal building at Broadway and Fountain Street and the lots to its rear to Themis Street.

The second half of winter's latest one-two punch lands overnight, piling more snow and more of the hazardous conditions that go with it on Cape Girardeau and the district; conditions aren't expected to moderate, as more snow is expected today.

1940

According to figures supplied by Norman Colman, who is with the St. Louis office of Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Co., and who has been here during the showing of the film, "Gone With the Wind," approximately 7,600 people will have seen the movie after its concluding presentation at the Broadway Theater this evening.

The Central High Tigers, champions of their regional basketball tournament, will resume preparations tomorrow for the state tournament at Joplin, Missouri; although the Tigers were hit hard when center Bob Burns used up his eligibility, Bob Bohnsack has almost made fans forget their disappointment.

1915

KELSO, Mo. -- Louis Calliotte and Clem Westrich had what could be called a wood-hauling frolic last Monday; the wood was made this winter by the pair on the Gus Lux land east of town and, with about 10 wagons, was hauled to town Monday; having a half barrel on tap, the haulers were served with a drink after each load hauled, for pay.

An agreement has been reached between the Cape Girardeau Board of Education and Vogelsang Brothers, contractors, whereby work will be resumed at once on construction of the new central school building on Pacific Street.
