CHAFFEE, Mo. -- R.H. Capshaw has won a major step in his battle to become a candidate for mayor in the Chaffee city election April 4; yesterday, residents of Chaffee went to the polls to give a better than 10-to-1 approval for the annexation of Capshaw's property to the city, which allows him to fulfill the residence requirements of a candidate.

Plans for building a Lutheran retirement and nursing home complex in the area will be presented at a special joint circuit meeting Sunday evening at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Jackson; representatives of 15 congregations of the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod in Cape Girardeau and Perry counties will be asked to affirm recommendations to form a not-for-profit corporation for the purpose of planning and building such a complex.

1942

Palm Sunday. Palms are distributed at Lutheran and Catholic churches, as well as Christ Episcopal Church. At Centenary Methodist Church, the early part of the Palm Sunday morning service is devoted to the christening of infants.

A force of 600 men, 100 of them in Southeast Missouri, will be recruited immediately to form an Emergency State Highway Patrol, to be organized and trained under direction of Col. M. Stanley Ginn, superintendent of the patrol; the auxiliary will assist the patrol in any war-necessitated emergency.

1917

The stock of goods of the Farm Dairy Co. is sold in the morning to the highest bidder to satisfy accounts the company owed J.W. Flannigan, the Cape City Grocery and the L. Cohen Grocery Co. of St. Louis; the store was closed by the manager, C.H. Buchanon, two days ago, and yesterday attachment suits were filed against the stock; Cape Girardeau merchants buy the stock at auction.

The matter of forming a Red Cross Society in Cape Girardeau has been taken up by the club women of the city, who are busy getting names necessary to sign their petitions. Scott County will be included in the organization.
