The Rev. Ellis T. Rottmann is installed as pastor of Hanover Lutheran Church during an afternoon service; the Rev. Herman C. Scherer, president of the Missouri District of the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod, performs the rite of installation.

The Rev. J.S. Watson of Bell City, Missouri, has accepted the call as the new pastor of Bethel Assembly of God Church in Cape Girardeau; he will succeed the Rev. Jo Shoults, who with his wife has moved to Oak Grove, Missouri.

1943

CARUTHERSVILLE, Mo. -- Strongly worded resolutions, criticizing Army authorities for their failure to raise a training plane from the Mississippi River where it crashed Feb. 28 near here and recover the body of the pilot, have been sent by two Caruthersville civic clubs to representatives in Congress; the Rotary Club dispatched its message to Rep. Orville Zimmerman, while the Business and Professional Women's Club sent a similar missive to Sen. Harry S. Truman.

Members of the local painters' union are offering their service free in painting the grandstand at Fairground Park a dark green; only the outside of the ancient structure is being painted, and the baseball committee is furnishing the 22 gallons of paint needed; none of it is at city expense.

1918

A farewell service in honor of Dr. Elmer T. Clark is held in the evening at Centenary Methodist Church; the program includes a number of short addresses by representatives of the local churches and the various patriotic organizations of the city; Clark has resigned his pastorate here to take up Y.M.C.A. war work.

Eighteen children are confirmed at a morning service at Trinity Lutheran Church: William Stehr, Albert Schultz, Charles Windisch, Gustav Eggimann, Carl Werner, Edward Popp, Martin Schlegel, Clara Lang, Helen Frenzel, Anita Brunke, Edna Hilpert, Erna Keller, Hazel Koch, Amanda Schmittzehe, Belma Sander, Sophia Schwab and Olga Bender; because of the illness of the pastor, the Rev. A.M. Lohmann of Egypt Mills performs the ceremony.
