Three and a half years after the opening of the Show Me Center, the Southeast Missouri State University Board of Regents has approved plans to re-roof the structure and the adjoining Student Recreation Center because of roof leaks; in other action Friday, the board approved a recommendation by university officials and faculty to recognize Martin Luther King Jr.'s birthday as an official holiday, beginning in 1992.
James V. Jones, a vice president of the Armstrong Cork Co., was the principal speaker for the fourth annual Cape Girardeau Chamber of Commerce and Joint Service Club dinner last night at the Arena Building; a highlight of the evening was the presentation of the Golden Deeds Award to Rush H. Limbaugh, Cape Girardeau lawyer for 50 years.
The first two candidates for the Cape Girardeau City Council in the spring municipal elections have filed their affidavits with the city clerk; they are the incumbent whose term expires this year, W. Glenn Bishop and Charles A. Palis, a Cape Girardeau insurance agent.
Dedication services for the Assembly of God Church building on South Sprigg Street, now under construction, will be Easter Sunday, according to the pastor, the Rev. R.M. Crenshaw; all of the brick work on the new building has been completed, and the roof has been installed; plastering of the interior was started last week.
After extensive preparations, a two-week pre-Easter evangelistic campaign begins at First Baptist Church here; speaker for the campaign, the Rev. C. Gordon Bayless, pastor of First Baptist Church at Pampa, Texas, will arrive Tuesday.
Otis Goza, until recently owner of a livery stable on lower Broadway, but now a rancher in Arkansas, has purchased a fine saddle horse from Ruddle Adams of Pocahontas; the animal cost Goza $300; Goza will take the animal home with him on his return the latter part of this week.
Word has been received here that Mr. and Mrs. S.B. Hunter are now in New Orleans and will be home by this weekend; the couple is just returning from an extended trip to Panama and the Hawaiian Islands.
