Members of the Cape Girardeau City Council are expected to consider the thorny question of whether or under what circumstances to provide city fire protection outside the city limits; central to the discussion is the industrial park a few miles south of the city limits, which the Greater Cape Girardeau Development Corp. is developing.

The Sigma Chi Fraternity house-to-house canvass here Saturday for soap, clothing, toothpaste and other items for the people of My Thi village in South Vietnam was a success; between 400 and 500 bars of soap were collected, as well as two cases of canned goods, about 180 pieces of clothing, and several boxes of toothpaste and toothbrushes.

Twenty Teachers College students, taking the special aviation courses at the college, begin their actual flying in the afternoon at the Consolidated School of Aviation airport on Highway 74; each of the students is required to carry a straight life insurance policy of $1,000, as well as a liability policy of $3,000, covering damage they might inflict to the plane in case of a crash.

Bob Strong and his band provide the music for the second annual "big name" dance at Houck Field House in the evening; last year, the students pooled their money to bring Woody Herman's orchestra here.

1916

Members of the local chapter of the United Daughters of the Confederacy are making plans for a number of projects; the women plan to hold a large party the Monday after Easter at the homes of three of the members, the proceeds to be used for the erection of a memorial colonnade at the entrance of the Normal School.

The steamer Peoria of the Eagle Packet Co. arrives in Cape Girardeau at noon, fresh from an excursion to New Orleans; only five Girardeans, besides the orchestra, are aboard: Robert Harrison, Hazel Harrison, Mrs. L.F. Klostermann, Mrs. J.L. Stout and Mrs. W.H. Harris.
