Former Southeast Missouri State University debate directors Fred Goodwin and the late Forrest H. Rose have been chosen to be inducted into the Pi Kappa Delta National Debate Honorary's Hall of Fame in a ceremony March 20 in Seattle.

Roosevelt Bank of St. Louis announces it plans to buy all 17 branches of Home Savings of America in Eastern Missouri; eight of the 17 Home Savings of America branches are in Southeast Missouri, including facilities at Cape Girardeau, Sikeston, Dexter, Poplar Bluff, Malden and Portageville.

1968

Blustery March winds bring sleet and snow to the Cape Girardeau area on the heels of a driving winter rain that fell yesterday and last night; at 11 a.m., the temperature stands at 32 degrees, it is snowing and the wind is howling out of the northeast at 23 miles per hour.

James Moxley, superintendent at Nell Holcomb School, has announced his resignation, effective at the end of the school year; Moxley, who has been at the school for one year, plans to return to the University of Missouri to complete work on his doctorate.

Capt. Robert L. Faurot of Cape Girardeau, former Missouri University football star, has been reported missing in action in the southwest Pacific, where he has been a fighter pilot; Faurot is a brother of coach Don Faurot of the University of Missouri; his parents reside on Cape Rock Drive.

Brig. Gen. Robert E. Nowland, commanding general of the 28th Flying Training Wing, who has headquarters at George Army Air Base, Lawrenceville, Illinois, pays his first official visit to the 73rd Army Air Forces Flying Training Detachment at Harris Field in the afternoon; Nowland flies into Cape Girardeau from George Field in a C-78 twin-engined plane, flown by a staff pilot; he inspects the field, all buildings and equipment before returning to George Field.

1918

Dr. W.L. Halperstadt of Columbia, Missouri, will succeed Dr. Elmer T. Clark as pastor of Centenary Methodist Church and will begin his services here the first Sunday in April; Clark will answer a war call to aid in YMCA work in France.

Mr. and Mrs. William Schlegel of Cape Girardeau yesterday received a postal card from their son, William, saying he had arrived safely in France; he is now in the training camps on the European battle front and soon will take his place in the lines; the card was written by young Schlegel about three weeks ago.
