A fire that is believed to have started in the paint room at the Lee-Rowan plant in Jackson sent two workers to the hospital and the rest home last night; all fire trucks in Jackson were dispatched to the plant, after someone reported the fire at 10:01 p.m.; the small blaze was brought under control quickly.
The rapid extension of federal law enforcement and judiciary facilities in Cape Girardeau will continue with the imminent appointment of a full-time U.S. Assistant Public Defender; the government is now interviewing candidates for the position.

The Cape Girardeau Jaycees have honored Leslie Hartsock, a member of the city fire department, for most outstanding work by a member during 1942; his selection was based on his work as chairman of the Jaycees' safety and fire prevention committee, as an enthusiast in the model airplane project and for other activities.
Vogelsang Brothers, contractors, won their suit against the Cape Girardeau Board of Education in Common Pleas Court Friday, a jury awarding the company the amount asked for plus interest at 6 percent for approximately three years; the contractors sued for $300, which they alleged was due them on the boiler they installed in Lincoln School, when that building was remodeled three years ago, and for $100 for damages they sustained while building Central High School.
Patriotic men of Cape Girardeau County meet in the federal courtroom, about 100 of them, to organize the Cape Girardeau County Minute Men for carrying on all patriotic movements that arise during the remaining period of the war.
