A different company will provide weather observations at Cape Girardeau Municipal Airport; a new contract has been awarded to MidWest Weather Inc. of Maryland Heights, Missouri, which doesn't expect to make any immediate changes here.

Resolution Trust Corp. takes over Colonial Federal Savings & Loan Association; it is the second Cape Girardeau savings and loan institution federal regulators have taken over; but officials say customers will see no changes at Colonial, which will be open for business tomorrow.

1965

An ordinance to permit six additional licenses to sell liquor by the drink in Cape Girardeau has been enacted by the city council; the ordinance increases the maximum number of licenses from 12 to 18 and ties further increases to the population.

A decision on the proposal to extend Cape Girardeau's city limits in three directions was postponed by the city council Monday until after a general meeting of interested persons is held; around 30 people, many from the Nell Holcomb School District, appeared at Monday's meeting to lodge a new protest against the perspective reduction of their district; others object to the annexation in general.

1940

Without returning a single indictment, the county grand jury, in session five days at Jackson, submitted its report yesterday to Judge Frank Kelly in Circuit Court; the report makes some recommendations as to county offices and suggested repairs to the two courthouse.

After hitting the zero mark again this morning for the sixth day this month, temperatures begin rising in Cape Girardeau; January's minimum average so far has been 11.8 degrees, while its average high has been 26.5 degrees.

1915

A store belonging to Joe Rapp and a blacksmith shop owned by Henry Wolfenkoehler about 7 miles northwest of Jackson on the Oak Ridge road, burn early in the afternoon; the origin of the fire is unknown.

Fred Groves, agent for the Ford automobile, has leased the main floor of the Himmelberger-Harrison Building on Broadway and will make one of the biggest displays of Ford vehicles to be seen in the state; the main floor will be used as a showroom, while the rear room will be used for storage and light repair purposes; Fred Stemmer will be in charge of the repair department.
