A group of citizens opposed to the construction of a recreational lake in Cape Girardeau and Bollinger counties got organized last night by adopting a new name, kicking off fundraising efforts and electing officers; the name "Citizens Against the Lake" was adopted.

The Golden Eagles Marching Band of State College and its director, LeRoy Mason, along with assistant director Wesley Tower, are honored by the Missouri House of Representatives; the band is commended for its part in the inaugural ceremony of Gov. Warren E. Hearnes on Jan. 11 at Jefferson City and for other performances, the most recent being during halftime of the National Football League's playoff bowl in the Orange Bowl at Miami.

The Cape Girardeau County Court discusses with architect Fred Dormeyer Jr. possible changes in the county recorder's office to provide a fireproof storage space and increased working efficiency.

SIKESTON, Mo. -- There have been 152 tenant families in six Southeast Missouri counties registered so far as needing and desiring land, according to Carl F. Wedeking of the Missouri State Employment Service, in charge of the district listing families who will have to move shortly; more than half of the 152 heads of families reported so far are white.

Moon Distributing Co. plans to construct a general warehouse building at Columbia, Missouri, this year; according to Roy Buckner, details of the building haven't been worked out, but it will be constructed this spring or summer

1915

A special train of seven coaches carries the St. Louis, Cape Girardeau and Jackson delegations to Caruthersville, Missouri, to attend the annual meeting of the Southeast Missouri Federation of Commercial Clubs; it is one of the largest special trains put to such use in the history of the state.

Frisco passenger train No. 802 resembles an iceberg when it pulls into Cape Girardeau in the afternoon from the South, the entire train being covered with snow and ice; parties coming in on the train say heavy snow fell all the way from Memphis, Tennessee, to this city.
