A $500 contribution to the newly-organized Friends of the Rose Garden has been received from the Oscar C. Hirsch Foundation, officials of the Cape Girardeau Council of Garden Clubs said; the new group has as its aim the financial support of the Rose Display Garden in Capaha Park.

Judge W. Osler Statler of the Common Pleas Court overrules the intervenors' motion for a new trial in the city annexation case; this opens the way for an appeal to a higher state court should the opponents of annexation so decide.

Value of streets, alleys and roads in Greenville, Missouri, was fixed at $19,500 by official commissioners who filed their report in Federal Court yesterday; Greenville is being abandoned, as the damming of the St. Francis River at Wappapello, Missouri, is expected to put it in a potentially flooded area when the dam starts operating, most likely during this year.

Eighty seniors finish their scholastic careers at Central High School; formal graduation exercises will be held at the end of the new semester, which will start Monday, when the spring class also holds its commencement.

Harry Minton, the former banker who has been connected with Fred Groves' Ford auto agency here for nearly a year, has left Cape Girardeau for Sikeston, Missouri, where he will take over the management of the Ford agency there for Groves.

In the past week, the price for shoeing horses has jumped from $1 per set of four shoes to $1.20, and the prospects are another increase will be made within the next few weeks; the jump was caused by the rise of the market price on shoes from $3.75 per hundred pounds to $5; coal dealers, draymen and liverymen will be hardest hit by the blacksmiths' increase.
