The small Millersville First Baptist Church has big plans; nine members of the church are leaving Tuesday on a trip to Ecuador to construct a church building for the congregation's new sister church there.

1967

A plane lands at the Cape Girardeau Municipal Airport, bringing home soldier-diplomat Lt. Gen. Seth J. McKee, commander of U.S. Forces Japan and Fifth Air Force; McKee, formerly of Illmo and Cape Girardeau, is visiting here after 29 years of dedicated service to his country; while here, he will visit his mother, Mrs. W.F. McKee, his youngest son, Thomas J. McKee, a freshman at State College, and his four brothers living in the area; Gen. McKee is on his way to a conference in Washington, D.C.

Dora Wilkinson made Cape Girardeau medical history yesterday when she walked out of Southeast Hospital with two things: a battery-operated pace-maker and the reasonable expectancy of continued normal life.

1942

Turning clocks ahead an hour to fall in line with the war daylight saving time, Cape Girardeau gets into motion an hour earlier; aside from minor confusion, everything starts off bright and early, with such odd sights as pupils and Teachers College students trudging off to school long before sunrise.

The W.H. Bohnsack store on Main Street is no more; because of the continued illness of Maurice Bohnsack, who succeeded his father in the business several years ago, and also because his son, William, must now go into Army service, the stock of men's clothing and furnishings was sold to the Buckner-Ragsdale store and will be disposed of at a special sale.

1917

Ellen Wright, who celebrated her 89th birthday Monday at her ancient residence on Themis Street, died yesterday morning; for nearly two years she had lain abed, unable except for a few steps, to leave it and get about her house; daily, she was looked after carefully by her nephew, J.T. Nunn, and others.

John Williams, dean of the liverymen in Cape Girardeau, has sold his livery stable on lower Broadway and retired from the business; Claude McEndree and W.A. Juden purchased the horses, buggies and other belongings of the livery and moved the property to the old Kage barn on Spanish Street; the barn in which Williams has been operating for the past year has been leased by Allen Kimmel, who will use it for a sales stable.
