Pride in the American military shows itself in full force as a large gathering participates in an Operation Desert Storm support rally. Prior to the rally, an estimated 450 to 500 persons march, walk and ride in a parade from Freedom Corner in Capaha Park to Arena Park, where Ian Sutherland, a retired Army colonel, speaks to the crowd.

ALTENBURG-FROHNA, Mo. -- Construction is expected to begin in the next few months on a $250,000 modernized stave mill here. The Mason Stave Co., subsidiary of the National Distillers Co., recently acquired 28 acres just south of Altenburg and plans to construct the mill over a period of years.
JEFFERSON CITY -- Dr. Mark Scully, president of Southeast Missouri State College at Cape Girardeau, is critical of the state budget director's formula for figuring out how much salary money is needed for all state colleges. While a spokesman for the director says it is a consistent formula used to figure the salary money for all schools, Scully says the formula is consistently wrong.

The Teachers College Indians brought their 20-game basketball schedule to a close last night, losing a heartbreaking thriller to the Maryville (Missouri) Teachers in Houck Field House, 33-32. The Indians finished the season with nine wins and 11 defeats.
I. Ben Miller has finally decided upon the plans for his new ice-cream and candy factory building. S. Boutin will begin work on it just as soon as the weather permits. The building will be two stories, 36 by 150 feet, with a basement under it. It will be on Spanish Street, just south of the Klostermann buildings.
The leaning chimney on the old Wright house at the corner of Themis and Middle streets was torn down Tuesday by the Brunkes at the order of Joe T. Nunn, who looks after the property.
