The American Lung Association of Eastern Missouri has a new office in the Medical Arts Building on Broadway. The office was donated by four Cape Girardeau physicians: Drs. Harold Ridings, Edward D. Campbell, James Kinder and Michael Shoss.
Three members of the Scott County Sheriff's Department -- deputy Brenda Schiwitz, deputy Roy Butler and dispatcher Christine Jolley -- have completed the 120-hour course at the Southeast Missouri State University Law Enforcement Academy.
Newth Rubber Co., a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Ludlow Corp. of Needham Heights, Massachusetts, announces it will build a plant in Cape Girardeau; the local plant, to be located along Nash Road, will triple the company's capacity for processing sponge-rubber carpet cushion and will produce a full line of sponge cushion products in widths up to 9 feet.
BENTON, Mo. -- E.R. Tirmenstein has been given the Community Leadership Award for 1965, sponsored by the Cape Girardeau Chamber of Commerce Wholesale and Manufacturing Committee. Tirmenstein has served on the Benton Town Board as secretary and as mayor.
A special quarterly conference session has been called for Wednesday night at Maple Avenue Methodist Church to consider a plan to build a new church edifice. The district superintendent, the Rev. J. Wilson Crichlow, will preside at the gathering.
The Christmas season opens in Jackson in the morning with the presentation of Wilson's cantata "The First Christmas" at the Presbyterian Church. Directing the cantata is Mrs. S.H. Salmon, and soloists are Mrs. W.E. Statler, Lucille Steck, Mrs. R.H. Wilson, Charles LaPierre and Ruth Conrad.
Superintendent J.N. Crocker of the Cape Girardeau Public Schools announces a change of plans in the two-day dedication activities for the new Central High School. Because of the foul weather predictions, the school children's parade set for tomorrow has been called off. An open house will be held tomorrow and Friday, and dedicatory exercises will be Friday evening.
Cape Girardeau was called upon to furnish ammunition and rifles to a band of officers organized in New Madrid and Dunklin counties to make a raid tonight on a band of night riders near Tallapoosa, Missouri. Bahn Brothers, hardware men, sent four high-powered rifles and 400 rounds of ammunition to the officers at Kennett, Missouri; other arms and material were secured elsewhere.
