For the first time in the 16-year history of the Southeast Missouri Regional Port Authority, the board of commissioners will be chaired by a Scott County member; yesterday, the board elected Morty Potashnick of Sikeston, Missouri, as its new chairman.

An open house for members is held in the evening to inaugurate the new $211,000 clubhouse of the Cape Girardeau Country Club; construction of the facility began in February, replacing the original clubhouse, which burned Dec. 11, 1963.

A standing ovation rocks through Houck Field House in the afternoon, as approximately 1,000 people attend the first intercollegiate wrestling meet here; State College produces a 23-11 victory over Missouri University in a whirlwind finish with two quick wins in the 177-pound and heavyweight classes.

William Ballard, who is employed by Bronson Construction at Troy, Missouri, returns to his home Sunday after having visited his parents, Mr. and Mrs. W.C. Ballard, here since Friday; he began work with the construction firm when it started work on Cheney Hall.

CARUTHERSVILLE, Mo. -- Wielding a stove poker and with the aid of Mrs. John Hosler, wife of the sheriff, and her two daughters, Deputy Sheriff Bill Thomas last night dispersed an angry crowd of 50 to 100 people, after the arrest of three men for questioning in the stabbing earlier in the day of a 65-year-old woman; while the mob attempted to force its way into the county jail, about 250 other curious people watched from a safe distance; Thomas is the sheriff-elect of Pemiscot County.

Mrs. Casey Ransom, wife of a city fireman, last night routed a prowler who tried to break into her home by shoving a pistol against a window pane squarely in front of his face as he was peering in; offering to fill the man full of lead if he didn't leave at once, the prowler nearly tore down the front fence getting over it after peering into the barrel of the revolver.

BENTON, Mo. -- Mrs. Eliza Leedy, the aged woman who has conducted a high-class boarding house for the benefit of the members of the bar and others attending court for many years, was honored by the local bar association on her 80th birthday during the last week of court; she was presented a handsome chair and many good wishes.
