The office of the State Department of Liquor Control for District 5, a 22-county area, has been located in Cape Girardeau, with Verne W. Baker, as district supervisor, in charge; Baker is residing at 1754 Whitener St. and may be reached there until a downtown office is opened.
H.R. DeTournay, manager of the Cape Transit Corp., asked the city council to approve the extension of service of two bus lines; the plan is to extend the Dunklin Street line west to Perry Avenue and to run the Bloomfield route west from Louisiana Avenue to the heart of the Koch suburb on Bloomfield Street.
Notice of the contest of his election was served upon J.N. Hutson -- who on the face of returns was elected sheriff of Cape Girardeau County over Henry J. Brinkopf at the November election -- by Deputy Constable Willis Martin last night; the notice charges more than 100 illegal votes were cast in the election, the majority being in Klostermann precinct, at Pecan Grove and at Dutchtown.
