The Southeast Missourian will begin publishing Business Today, a monthly newspaper devoted solely to business-related news, in September; it will be the only one of its kind in the Southeast Missouri and Southern Illinois area.
The Cape Girardeau City Council refuses to reconsider action on the location of a downtown exit from the new Mississippi River bridge route, despite Realtor Tom L. Meyer's appeal that a Lorimier Street route would threaten a city landmark, St. Vincent's College.
J. Ronald Fischer, a grocer here, is the 14th candidate to file for a place on the Cape Girardeau City Council; Fischer, 32, is associated with his father in Fischer and Son, a retail grocery business.
The explosive increase in motorcycles on Cape Girardeau streets has resulted in a rise in accidents involving the two-wheeled vehicles; police chief Irvin E. Beard notes the average motorist hasn't yet had time to get used to sharing the road with motorcyclists; an estimated 300 motorcycle licenses have been sold since the first of February in Cape Girardeau County; the number of motorcycles on the road is between 500 and 1,000.
One hundred five youths took part yesterday in the opening series of contests as the Optimist Club's annual boys' week got into full swing, with winners selected in the roller skating and swimming divisions of the program; on tap today are marble and horseshoe tournaments at Fairground Park.
Extensive remodeling has been done in the Hotel Idan-Ha, says manager H.H. Humbert; all the rooms have been painted and papered, and a carload of new furniture has been installed; new rugs have been laid in the halls of the hotel and in some guest rooms; new mattresses and bed springs have been purchased for some rooms.
Dr. T.E. Woodruff, a distinguished eye expert of St. Louis, was in Cape Girardeau yesterday to examine Louis Houck's left eye; Houck, who was injured in a buggy accident recently, may loose the sight in that eye.
Bern Goza, partner of Lee James in the Missouri Mattress and Glove Manufacturing Co. of Cape Girardeau, will move here from Jackson and occupy his beautiful new cottage on South Ellis Street.
