The 1991 edition of Jackson Homecomers comes to an end, with chairman Bill Poe heaving a sigh of relief; the five-day Homecomers celebration, sponsored by the Altenthal-Joerns American Legion Post 158, began Tuesday and welcomed big crowds to uptown Jackson.

The County Central Committees of both political parties organized last night, mapping out plans for the campaign months ahead; the Democratic Committee, meeting at Jackson, elected Edward L. Downs as chairman for the next two years; the Republicans, also gathering at Jackson, re-elected Gary Rust as chairman.

An area man was killed in action in Vietnam Tuesday, according to telegrams received by his family from the Defense Department; he was Army Staff Sgt. Raymond Fordyce, 35, husband of Evelyn Fordyce of Scott City and foster son of Mr. and Mrs. H.W. Bartholomew of Perryville, Missouri.

Work on the exterior of the Church of God in Marble City Heights has been virtually completed, and the pastor, the Rev. J.H. Shirrell, said remodeling of the interior of the church will begin this week; stone has been placed around the outside of the building and it has been tuck-pointed and beaded.

The Rev. Roy Biesmeyer of Oak Ridge, pastor of the Fruitland charge, conducts services in the morning at Maple Avenue Methodist Church, exchanging places with the Rev. W.N. Ware, the pastor, who is conducting services at Fairview; the ministers have been holding a revival meeting for a week at the Fairview church and will continue it through Friday.

After three years of hard work, in which the Capahas took a leading part, the Southeast Missouri Baseball League has come to an end; at Sikeston, Missouri, last night, the managers of the six teams voted unanimously to quit the league season at once and to play independent baseball the remainder of the season.

John J. Holtz, a carpenter and contractor living near Cape Girardeau, reported he has the new school house at Egypt Mills under roof and will finish it in time for the start of the new term Sept. 11; the new school will be a two-room frame building and will cost about $1,600.
