Mr. Glenn Eftink, who will be ordained a priest Oct. 1, has been assigned to serve at St. Mary's Cathedral in Cape Girardeau, effective Oct. 15; the current associate pastor there, the Rev. Michael Zoellner, has been appointed pastor of St. Elizabeth Parish in El Dorado Springs, Missouri, and the mission of St. Peter at Stockton, Missouri.

Students at Franklin School will receive a visual lesson in Missouri history when they walk the halls this fall; the lesson is in the form of a just-completed mural in the school's north-end stairs by Cape Girardeau artist Craig Thomas.

1968

The expansion program at Kent Library at State College is complete, with just a few odds and ends remaining for workers to finish; the 1939 structure is five times larger than before; the expanded structure took two years and $3,164,000 in state and federal funds to accomplish.

The first concrete footings were poured yesterday for the Procter & Gamble complex near Trail of Tears State Park; the first pouring was for the office building, one of three major structures to be built for the paper-products plant.

1943

The congregation of First Baptist Church here observes its 109th anniversary at special services; the exact anniversary of the congregation is Aug. 13; a brief history of the church is read at the morning service; at the evening service, J. Maple Wilson, one of the oldest members of the congregation, speaks on, "This Church As I Remember It."

Beginning today, Centenary Methodist Church plans to hold its services in the Little Theater at Kent Library at State College, as workers redecorate the church's main auditorium; church officials estimate the work will require three to four weeks to complete.

1918

Charles Schweer of Gordonville again has proven himself the champion corn man of Missouri; he has received notice his corn has taken five first prizes at the state fair at Sedalia, Missouri, and his 10 ears of Yellow Dent won the grand championship for Missouri corn over all contestants at the fair.

The request made by the County Council of Defense and the County Farm Bureau for an appropriation of $1,500 instead of $1,000 for the expenses of maintaining the office of county farm agent was refused by the County Court on Wednesday.
