Owner Dennis Stockard says the old Opera House, a historic building at Broadway and Lorimier Street, will retain its 1860s exterior when it is rebuilt but will feature a modern interior that will include corporate offices, luxury hotel suites and the Royal N'Orleans Restaurant.
Transfer of postal operations from the Federal Building on Broadway to the new facility nearing completion at Bellevue and Frederick streets probably will take place next month; among adjustments involved in the move is one concerning box holders; the 529 boxes will be replaced with a new set of 750 boxes; because of a change in the number sequence for boxes of a particular size, most box holders will be getting new box numbers at the new location.
SIKESTON, Mo. -- The city council has named Kendall Sikes as Sikeston's new mayor, succeeding Harry Dudley, who has served as mayor since 1960, when the city adopted the council-manager form of government.
Trooper Glenn W. Lampley and Sgt. Melvin Dace, members of the newly formed Flying Squadron of motorcyclists of the Missouri State Highway Patrol, returned over the weekend from Jefferson City where they had been in training; the 13-man squadron will work in areas where there is heavy traffic on special occasions.

It is probable that Broadway will have another fine business building; negotiations for a fine garage building have been perfected, whereby H.E. Alexander and Otto Kochtitzky, owners of the property opposite The Republican office, will build it for the Cotner Auto Supply Co.; the building will be 50 wide and 100 feet deep and will be fireproof.
At Tuesday's election, W.L. Tomlinson received 107 votes to become mayor of Fornfelt; he outpaced six opponents: J.T. White, D.E. Pence, W.O. Baumgardner, H.C. Altmeier, H. Ruggles and J.W. Jacobs.
